Learn to Dance

Ballroom Club at UVA holds multiple group classes every week. This semester, our schedule is as follows:

Tuesdays:
8:00 PM – 10:00 PM at North Grounds Recreational Center Multipurpose Room 3

Wednesdays:
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Slaughter Gymnasium Multipurpose Room 1

Thursdays:
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Slaughter Gymnasium Multipurpose Room 1
Saturdays:
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Slaughter Gymnasium Multipurpose Room 1

We teach all four of the main styles in ballroom dancing: American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard, and International Latin. This semester (Fall 2025) we will be covering American Smooth and International Latin.

We offer your first two weeks of classes for free, so if you’re interested, go ahead and try us out!

This semester’s free classes are as follows (All are at SRC MP1, Wednesdays and Thursdays are at 6pm, Saturdays at 2pm):

September 3rd: Waltz
September 4th: Chacha
September 6th: Foxtrot
September 10th: Samba
September 11th: Tango
September 13th: Rumba

Membership

All members will have access to most of the club resources. This includes appropriate level lessons, social events, showcase, and competitions. Note that there may be an additional fee for some social events and competitions that require extensive travel.

There are two different rates at which members pay dues.

All who join the club who were not in the club last semester, both newcomers and those who have left the club but rejoin, will pay a reduced dues rate: $40.
All dues paying members (veterans) from the previous semester will pay the full dues rate for this semester (one dance competition): $80.

Alternatively, if you wish to attend our lessons but not join as a member of the club, we offer a flat rate of $5 per lesson. This is geared towards non-members who wish to attend a handful of lessons to gauge their interest in the club.

Additionally, if you are a returning member and recruit a new member to join, you both will receive $5 off your dues. This can be used to recruit a maximum of 2 new members (both new members would receive $5 off and the returning member receives $10 off).
